The profile of "Sustainable ecosystem development" corresponds to the areas of scientific research: the study of the composition (floral, cenopopulation, phytocenotic, composition of the fauna of invertebrates and vertebrates), the structure and functioning of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems; the study of the effects of natural and anthropogenic factors on biological systems at different levels of organization; assessment of the state and monitoring of anthropogenic transformations of flora and vegetation and animal communities within protected areas; development of conservation measures for plant and animal species in need of protection and their monitoring; study of the role of animals in the interaction of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, the structure and dynamics of matter and energy flows across the water-land boundaries of rivers and floodplain reservoirs.
